Ad Lib Gallery is delighted to present a bold new exhibition ‘MODERN RUIN’ showcasing the work of Louisa Tebbutt & 66HUNDRED along with guest artists Matt Mackman, Gary James McQueen, Stefano, Rachel Richards, Emily Penfold, Dorte Kloppenborg Skrumsager & more.
In a world where permanence is a myth and identity is under constant reconstruction, Modern Ruin explores what remains when time, weather, and culture erode the surface.
The portraits in Modern Ruin embrace imperfection, finding beauty in the fractures, rust, and wear. These are not untouched surfaces—they are marked, weathered, and worn like skin that’s lived. Each scar and crack becomes a testament to endurance—a reminder that strength often reveals itself through what survives, not what remains pristine.
Combining street art’s ephemerality with the weight of sculpture and the fluidity of digital media, Modern Ruin interrogates the idea of legacy: what fades, what endures, and what transforms. Faces emerge from rust, glitches, and grime—not as fixed likenesses, but as unwavering monuments to identity and resilience.
Together, the artists’ practices bridge the tactile and the digital, the ancient and the urban. Modern Ruin doesn’t just depict faces—it excavates them. Beneath each surface lies a quiet resistance: a reminder that even in decay, something endures.
