Ru Knox is a classically trained British artist based in London. After qualifying in architectural interior design in 2007, Ru spent nearly a decade teaching academic drawing and oil painting with Charles H. Cecil in Italy. Focused on portraiture, he fulfilled prestigious commissions, while recognition from competitions and exhibitions led to his work being displayed in renowned places such as the Mall Galleries in London and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Frustrated by the limitations of traditional aesthetics, Ru explored new paths through years of idea exploration and experimental techniques. In 2019, he solidified his thoughts and processes by earning a Master's in Fine Art at City and Guilds, where his MA exhibition caught the attention of collectors and galleries, leading to his first solo show 'Rapture' at Waluso Gallery in 2020.

The following years propelled him to prominence in the art world, and among dozens of group shows worldwide, he was a key artist at the famous 'Art in the Age of Now' at Fulham Town Hall with a solo room in 2021 and a solo exhibition titled 'Palimpsest' at Graffik Gallery in 2022. Ru regularly works with collectors and curators such as Ben Moore, MC Llamas, and Cynthia Corbett, and he constantly participates in art fairs all over, including Volta, The Other Art Fair, and London Art Fair.

Ru exhibited in New York this summer with Guerin Projects and has completed the last of five large paintings (600x300cm) that will be part of the Contemporary Art Museum 'Blurred' in Lucca, Italy, alongside sculptor Aron Demetz opening in April 2024.

Ru is currently working on a large show in Guernsey and another in London where only his paintings will hang with an exhibition of Rodin's sculptures early 2024.

Ru is one of the artists that exhibited at Ad Lib Gallery in Fulham as part of the Every Day is a Miracle exhibition.

These paintings are immersive environments, designed to encourage an optimal creative experience.

The ambiguous shapes and forms, which are expressed with vibrant colours and painterly techniques, invite the viewer to create a subjective narrative, based upon their own collection of thoughts and memories.

The overall effect is a sense of harmony and dissonance, cadence and rhythm, focus and disorientation.

Acquiring these visual cues the viewer’s role moves from the acquiescent and into the realm of creation as they are invited to stimulate their own rapturous sensation.
