The Piccolo
November 2019 London
The legacy of the late Tubby Hayes, one of the world’s greatest jazz musicians, comes to life through his mysterious piccolo stored in a trunk for 40 years. It was discovered by “the jazz detective” Gavin Povey who then loaned it to multi-instrumentalist Tenderlonious to assemble an exclusive sextet of contemporary British jazz talents. Recording four of Tubby’s tracks centring around the historical instrument never having been recorded before. Through the piccolo, Tubby’s musical genius has been recognised, fulfilling the dying wish of his partner, Liz (Solweig Elizabeth Gronland).
