PAUL RINNE

Paul Rinne is a local artist who has lived in Wimbledon for over 40 years. After graduating from Leeds and Cardiff Colleges of Art, Paul worked as a performance artist and as a musician with his own rock band, touring and performing musical theatre. He then embarked on a career in education, teaching art and photography to students at schools, colleges and universities, and at post-graduate level. He has a Master of Arts degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Art Education.

Paul’s current work focuses on capturing human beings in motion. He observes and explores the moving human figure in different environments. Central to his work is the notion of transience – that nothing remains the same, not even for an instant. He captures subjects primarily through blind contour drawings or sketches made in a matter of seconds. It is this sense that ‘nothing is still’ and ‘living on the edge of movement’ that Paul seeks to capture.

In his latest painting ‘Slam’, part of his Wimbledon series, he aims to capture the movement and drama that takes place on Centre Court each year. The painting purposefully uses many players on either side of the net to draw in the viewer’s eye and engage them in a tennis match on canvas.

Throughout his career Paul has produced his own work and continues to do so. He recently exhibited at the London South Bank, and his works are held in private collections both in the UK and overseas.
