Nancy chambers
Nancy Chambers has painted and drawn since childhood, finding joy and fulfilment in capturing the beauty of the natural world. Her creative journey has taken many turns—from designing hats in Leicester and teaching in Edinburgh to leading major charity campaigns in London, where she once chaperoned a young Ant and Dec at a private Stevie Wonder concert. She has lived in Bristol for over twenty years, raising two daughters and now enjoying life as a grandmother to six.
In 2019, she began painting professionally. The lockdown soon after offered her unexpected time to focus on her art, leading to exhibitions alongside celebrated British artists including Grayson Perry, Antony Gormley, Maggie Hambling, and Anish Kapoor. Her work is now held in collections around the world.
Inspired by fleeting moments in nature—the curve of a pear, the petals of a poppy, the bloom of a plum—she seeks to capture the essence of her subjects rather than literal likeness. She enjoys experimenting with texture and materials, from painting dandelions with needles to crafting palette knives from recycled plastic. Working mainly in acrylics, often with collage and mixed media, she continues to expand her intimate fruit series that began during lockdown.
