Katy Sawrey

Katy Sawrey is based in Edinburgh, she works from her garden studio by the sea. She paints with acrylics, building up layers of colour to explore atmosphere, light, and the emotional feel of a place. Much of her work is inspired by landscapes — especially those fleeting moments when light moves across the land and sky, changing everything.

She's drawn to colour everywhere: in fashion, old tiles, print design, or simply the way sunlight hits a wall. That mix of influences shows up in her paintings, which are bold but thoughtful too. She tends to work in collections, letting each piece stand on its own while still speaking to the others.

Katy originally trained in print at Central Saint Martins, but after years focusing on raising four children, it was lockdown that brought her back to painting. She began sharing her work online, and things grew from there — with collectors, exhibitions, and the joy of making art becoming part of daily life again.

Since then, she has exhibited her work across Scotland — at places like the RSA in Edinburgh, Dalkeith Palace, and Gleneagles Townhouse (where she held her first solo show). Recently, in February 2025, Katy was asked to paint a Porsche for TAG Heuer, which was ‘both wildly fun and surreal’.
